Sete Cidades - green & blue lakes

On this tour along the West Coast of the island of S. Miguel, we take you to visit the most iconic place in the Azores, the volcanic crater of Sete Cidades and its Green and Blue Lakes. Before getting there, we pass by Pico do Carvão, where we can enjoy a wonderful view of the central part of the island and at the same time the north and south coast, with its Mountains of Fogo and Vara in the background. As we climb, we arrive at Vista do Rei, as it has been called since the visit of El-Rey D Carlos I, where we can appreciate the unique beauty of this dormant volcano. Going towards its interior, a brief stop at another Lagoon, Santiago's, the deepest and most hidden, until we reach the bridge that separates the Green and Blue of this lagoon. In the parish, simple and beautiful, time to walk to the side of the lagoon, visit the church of S Nicolau, or simply have a coffee with the local people. Leaving these paradise, we'll head back to Ponta Delgada, in time to visit the pineapple production greenhouses, with a unique flavor in the world, and enjoy a liqueur from the same fruit while learning about the history of its production. We finish our tour back to Ponta Delgada.

Furnas volcanic pools, tea and gastronomy

Get ready for a MEMORABLE day. 

What we propose is a true odyssey for your senses, awakening the best sensations in each one, supported by centuries and centuries of tradition from these inhabitants of the Furnas volcano. 

We start with Tea, from Gorreana of course, produced in the only industrial plantation in Europe without stopping since 1883. An infusion of flavors and sents that transports us to other places. 

The Thermal Bath, in waters naturally heated by the volcano to 39ºC, full of minerals that will allow you to relax like never before, and who knows to come out there younger, thanks to the influence of the fountain of youth. 

The "Cozido das Furnas" cooked under the ground with the volcanic heat, unique flavor and gastronomic specialty of our Island, the white cheese seasoned with local Red Pepper and the unmistakable pineapple slice from the Azores could not be missing for desert. A true delicacy of the gods. 

Finally, the cheesecake from Vila Franca do Campo, whose secret is kept under lock and key, but it doesn't matter because it's something to eat and cry for more.

SETE CIDADES - GREEN & BLUE LAKES

The unforgettable beauty of this memorable place, the most visited of S Miguel Island, displays the gigantic volcanic crater of Sete Cidades and its wonderful Green and Blue Lagoons. For 4 hours, enjoy stunning views, walking tours, contact with local people, and also a visit to better know the production process of the unmistakable Ananás dos Açores.

 Departure from the hotel towards the city of Lagoa where we visit the Fábrica de Cerâmica Vieira (closed on Sundays) producing the famous blue and white ceramics since 1862, just before starting the ascent to the highest point accessible by car on the Island of S Miguel, Pico da Barrosa at 975m altitude. 

Here, a fabulous view of almost the entire island, with its south and north coasts, in the background the Sete Cidades Mountains and down below the incredible Lagoa do Fogo.Time for the necessary photos, before starting the descent along the north side of the mountain. 

A short stop in the Natural Park of Caldeira Velha, where we can admire the famous waterfall of hot, iron water, and a whole garden of tropical vegetation, which provides magnificent photographic moments to remember. (Entrances not included and baths only with mandatory prior reservation) 

One last stop in the city of Ribeira Grande, famous among many things for it's water mills and the Areal Santa Barbara Surfers Paradise Beach.

 A day not to forget!

We begin our journey to the Northeast, once the most flowery municipality in Europe and natural habitat of the second rarest bird in Europe, the Priolo. 

A first and brief stop on the North Coast, at the Miradouro de Sta Iria and it's time to get back on the road. 

The Miradouro Vigia das Baleias, formerly a point of observation of cetaceans during the times of whaling, transformed into a magnificent viewpoint, will be our destination. 

Next is Ribeira dos Caldeirões Natural Park, one of the most visited areas in the Northeast, where its Water Mills, its magnificent waterfall, and the trail that winds along the riverside stand out. 

Time for a typical buffet lunch, where the food reminds us of homemade flavours. 

We visit Vila do Nordeste, admiring the Ponte dos Sete Arcos and the peaceful center of the village. 

A stop at Vista dos Barcos viewpoint, from where we have a view of Ponta do Arnel and its Lighthouse, the oldest in São Miguel and the first to be seen by the ships comming to the Island. 

Time to head to one of the most emblematic viewpoints in the Nordeste district, Ponta do Sossego. An authentic garden by the sea, or in this case, on top of the cliff by the sea where we can observe the immensity of the Ocean.
